Peter Wilkins Recommendation

I have known Lance Fuller since 2003, when he enrolled as a student of Theatre Arts at Narrabundah College in Canberra, Australia.

A natural soft-spoken, unassuming demeanour belies a resolute confidence and ambitious determination to succeed. Laurence possesses a quiet passion that gives rise to inventive, imaginative and highly intelligent interpretation of character. The roles that he has undertaken while a student at Narrabundah College exude an intriguing  insight into the world of his character whether that be the tormented Carroll, the buffoonish Jake or the villainous Richard lll. His work demonstrates a resolve to explore the depths of his character, twisting and turning the obvious into a divergent perspective of humanity that is still founded on the intrinsic truth described in the text or perceived through a careful study of his relationship to other characters. His performance never ceases to interest and excite a different view of humanity.

As a member of the company, Lance has made a notable journey during his time at Narrabundah College. He holds firm opinion and respects the pursuit of excellence, founded on dedication and commitment. He works hard and expects similar devotion to his art in his fellow actors. He is supportive in the rehearsal process, and is always willing to offer advice, take direction and constantly strive to create a thoroughly truthful, engaging and compelling performance.

At best, Lance’s work may often be described as idiosyncratic. There is a brooding  introspection in the characters he creates, often portraying the aberrations of the tormented and disoriented. Dissatisfied with the familiar or the predictable, he searches for the character’s vulnerability, which he then presents as a powerful condition of every role he has undertaken.

However, this does not suggest a lack of flexibility. His natural affinity for clowning and a quirky sense of humour can create performances laden with comic absurdity, and his performance of Jake in "Within the Grin" gradually became a comic tour de force, reinforcing his ability to engage an audience, whether as a stand-up comedian or a wheelchair bound member of Mac the Knife’s absurd gang.

Above all, Lance is a passionate and dedicated human being. His ambition is fuelled by a desire to succeed and a will to pursue his passion. He is hungry for criticism and for advice and is always ready to explore the many facets of the actor’s craft in the hope of developing his own performance skills.

I admire his talent, his tenacity and his passion and I have no hesitation in recommending Lance highly to an institution that may offer him the opportunity to learn and develop his craft and fuel his passion to pursue the life of an actor and worker in the performing arts industry. I wish Lance every success in the future and recommend him to your company.

Yours sincerely,
